keeping warm on a winter
with a vegetarian chili,
i can't recall where i found the
but i like the ingredients for
the colour, red onions, garlic, red and
jalapeno peppers, sweet potato, zucchini,
white and black beans,
corn and all types of chili spices.
a comforting dinner
after a busy work day.
food is becoming
a theme here these days.

exploring the what's for dinner feature in
martha stewart living continues. the march issue
vegetarian menu appealed to me:
lentil and bulgur soup, cucumber and mint salad
with toasted pitas, roasted carrots with feta and
parsley, walnut shortbread.
the salad had green beans and boston
lettuce, my diners found the combination odd.
the lentil soup was wholesome. the roasted carrots
a good dish, but a bit repetitive since there were carrots
in the soup.
thankfully the walnut shortbread met with everyone's
preparing the menu even with the guidelines seemed
too much work for the result. oh well, that was dinner.

thoughts on culling books...
bookshelves are full to overflowing,
decisions need to be made,
paperbacks do not last as long
will i want to read these again?
someone else should enjoy the
books before they fall apart,
too many books,
they seem to follow me home,
many more books to consider...

out it came, placed by a window and watered.
now it is in bloom scenting the room with spring.
nature's little miracle.
last week i was tagged by elisabelle to tell seven
things about me:
i prefer to be outdoors.
none of my friends have visited my blog.
i was a hair model for a stylist competition, and
experienced what it is like to be an extreme redhead
for a few days.
it was by an unhappy accident that i found out that i
am allergic to crabmeat. now i ask what is in the dip.
i like klezmer music and am listening to this cd a lot.
i have difficulty in parting with flowers after they have

after walking in the cold,
a colourful and zesty lunch
is a good way to meet mid-day.
pita with mashed avocado and ajvar,
blood oranges, and a flavourful
chickpea salad with a tangy lemon cumin
vinaigrette, inspired by this recipe.
i omitted the walnuts, feta and lettuce,
the vinaigrette is a perfect winter flavour
boost and the fresh mint is essential.
now time for tea, and back to work.
