collection

it was a very cold and wet out,
i took these random snaps
on a day
when it was not raining
as much.
sun where are you?

museum island

museum island is a unesco site.
i visited the five museums
in one day.
it was intense, many
stairs to climb and
so much to see.
the scale of the buildings
are as impressive
as the collections.
more information
here and here.

ascension day

taking a break from museums
and galleries.
today was a day for wandering.
i came upon this statue,
it was in an open area near
what appeared to be a vacant
school building.
later i took refuge in a
tiny café to warm up.
it is very cold here, i have
mentioned this before. people
are wearing their winter coats
and i am dressed for the
merry month of may.

more history

the new topographie des terrors
documentation centre
stands on the site of the
old gestapo headquarters.
more information here.
it is a stark building
surrounded by gravel landscaping.
a section of the berlin wall
remains standing in front of the
centre. the grim history
is presented through photos,
written word, films and
audio.

jewish museum berlin

yes, that is superman
crashing into the sidewalk in front
of the jewish museum. (here)
the special exhibit
heroes freaks and super-rabbis
is a history of the work by
jewish cartoonists. (here)
the permanent collection
in the new building designed
by daniel libeskind (here)
is compelling.
i found the holocaust
tower, the garden of
exile to be moving.
the most intense
exhibit for me was the
work of israeli artist
menashe kadishman (here)
located in the void
entitled "shalachet"
fallen leaves.
