i was smitten
by the images
in this book
about
by gabriel bauret.
so elegant.

more art

another art event this weekend,
this time at the artscape wychwood barns,
artscape is an organization that redevelops
buildings to make available live/work/exhibit space
for artists. this building was once a maintenance barn
for streetcars. now there are art studios, exhibit spaces,
living quarters, farmers' markets, music events, gardens
and this very nice brick oven...

wool

the sheep theme continues,
i fell in love with this wool.
it comes from a family farm.
aren't the colours beautiful,
though i am favouring the
natural wool.
a knitting project is being
planned.
more information about this
wool can be found here.

vintage tea tin

i imagined that there was a garage clear out
and this forgotten rusty tea tin was discovered
in a dark corner.
not having the heart to throw it out
they placed it by the curb.
maybe someone will take it?
take it they did.
after a bit of regrettable
destructive cleaning
the tin has a new life.
i do like the queen mary image
and the faded prince of wales.
ironically there is an ongoing de-cluttering
campaign here, things seem to make their
way into the house faster than out.

happy autumn!

back in the city

last weekend was the queen west art crawl,
this street has many galleries
like this artist run co-operative gallery.
all weekend there are events such as studio
tours, performances and an outdoor art
exhibit, with over 250 artists showing their
work. a silver elvis shows up to all the
events in the city it seems. this drawing
caught my eye for obvious reasons. the
artist's site can be found here.

horse pulling

this is the last of the fair photos
of feathered friends, agility dogs,
cows going home, giant pumpkins and
horse pulling.
horse pulling is a competition new to me.
the skill, strength and practice is impressive.
there was only one women competing.
now i am going to get political,
the fairgrounds are in the countryside for now,
in the not too far distance in the second last photo
you can see a housing development.
when leaving the area, almost every farm property
has a sign indicating a request for zoning change to
residential or announcing a future housing development.
this is excellent arable land, not only in the province
but the entire country. what are we going to eat?

fall fair part 2

the theme for the fair was
sheep,
i love sheep.
the sheep judging was very
interesting.
like the sign states
in the last photo,
some of the sheep were
being raised for meat.

fall fair part 1

i have not been to a fall fair in
a long time.
there is always a midway,
the rides did not tempt me,
though the pink bear did.

fabric

somehow i have acquired a vast
amount of fabric, all stashed in bags
and boxes. i do not sew.
however, the fabrics do come in
handy when it is time to refurbish
a neglected chair, (it was my grandmother's)
i can't decide whether to stain it
dark or white. suggestions are welcome.
