spring fever

spring has brought
out cars
if not flowers.
we celebrated the
arrival of the
season
with this
impressive
chocolate cake
and a vividly red
cupcake.
best wishes to all
on the occasion
of the vernal
equinox.

magnolia

at my mother's house
there is a small magnolia tree
that i am fond of.
i have only seen it in full bloom
3 or 4 times.
due to unpredictable spring
rains, high winds or sudden heat
waves i would often miss the
big flowering event.
this year due to cool weather
the flowers waited
for my visit.
funny how things like that
can be so significant.

unfurling

i love this time of year,
when the trees
threaten
green
and
pink blossoms
burst.

floral tribute

i love you forsythia,
your bold yellowness,
a beacon of joyful
colour
on grey rainy days.
that said,
i have two forsythia shrubs
in the garden,
sadly i can't seem to
trim them properly,
thus creating an
exuberant mess.

march walk

under a blue
sky
we walked by the
dangerously swift
muddy river.
in the woods
there were
signs of
construction
activity.
spring is almost
here.

promise of spring

the local shops
have enticing displays
of spring flowers
and pussy willows.
so difficult to chose
what colours
to bring home.
how can one resist
those velvety catkins?
