mind the gap

following a long subway ride
to an infrequently
visited area
of this metropolis,
it is
as if i
emerged into a foreign city,
definitely not paris.
the landscape appears
completely transformed
by construction
within
months if not weeks.
a little park remains,
an oasis.
on my return
home
i stand back
and
mind the gap.

greening

everyday
there is
more
green
appearing
on the
ground
and trees.

yesterday

yesterday colours,
a red painted wall
bordered by spent
dandelions,
white blossoms
surviving neglect
in an urban yard,
the obligatory
coffee on a
green table,
black painted
theatre empty
of an audience,
red chairs
patiently set
in a row.
the piano
with a
layer of grey
dust
exposed,
silently on
display.

dinner

at this time of year
the late afternoon light
creates dramatic shadows.
dinner had an unintentional
green theme, green flowers
on the table,
generous
amounts of parsley
in the white bean dip,
and a spinachy risotto
for the main course
accompanied by a
green salad.
no one commented.
the drunken sunken chocolate cake
was not green obviously.
i have never baked anything
like it. despite its richness
seconds were consumed.
i found the recipe here,
it originated from here.
if it appeals do
give it a try.

cherry blossom time

thousands flock
to the park,
walking,
viewing,
photographing,
inhaling,
absorbing
the
beauty
of the
annual
cherry blossom
display.
wishing everyone
a good weekend.

table four

over the weekend
we went exploring out of the city.
regrettably this town
shuts down at
3 in the afternoon.
a return visit
is planned.
we had an
early dinner
in another
municipality.
the crepes
were good.

holidays

holidays and hospital visits
seem to coincide
these days.
prayers and
mega doses of
humour
help.
i am rather
fond
of the old
plaster statues
that have
been tucked
away in
corners.

april

a gratuitous
photo
of my
favourite
flowers,
tulips,
one can
never
have too
many
in the house
or garden.

earth hour report

the city electrical authority reported a 6.8 per cent
reduction of power use.
this was a slight improvement
from 5 per cent last year,
far below the
15 per cent
reduction
in 2009.
on our walk
many houses
had electrical
lights blazing,
we did not
encounter
families on
lantern walks.
a disappointment.
happy april.
