the commuter train idled,

a crumbling paper table

decorated the entrance.

in a corner

sat an illuminated shape.

chair awaited a diner.

we enjoyed our evening

under the suspended lights.

at last,

emerging into the

quiet night

there in the distance

the tower glowed red.

blue, black, red and yellow

walked under a

blue sky.

the sandwich was placed

on a

black table.

coffee was served on

a table painted

red.

stood silently

in the window.

cool breeze

in the city one can see it,

fruit ripening and

tumbling on the sidewalks,

one can feel it

on warm days,

the cool breeze

that warns us,

autumn

is approaching.

a composed salad seemed like a practical

choice for lunch on a humid rainy day,

the less practical choice was to bake

buns on a humid rainy day.

it was worth the increased heat in the kitchen.

i usually do not have very many things on my

mantlepiece, and try to keep it sparse.

after visiting nina's blog and reading

her mantlepiece post, i was inspired

to change things on my mantlepiece,

(regrettably the fireplace is not a

working one). the result a still life.

it was an interesting exercise and

creates a different mood to the room.

i will change things around more often.

in memory

yesterday i attended a funeral,

a sad occasion,

especially when someone dies

much too young and suddenly.

this morning i was in a dark

cloud

thinking of her,

a sincere, generous, kind individual

with a delightful sense of humour.

one thing she enjoyed was

going out for coffee.

so out i went to a new cafe.

in the heat of summer,

the time to

start painting.

a weekend project

that seems

to be

turning into

a lifestyle.

a new kitchen scale needed to be purchased,

the other shopper in the household

armed with a department store discount

coupon

selected this model (there was not much of

a choice).

the colour is cheerful though not my personal

preference, but the size is compact and easy

to store.

an unusual feature is that the scale has a

timer (who would have thought) and it

beeps rather loudly. an annoying

and unnecessary detail.

miss m the watchful kitchen companion

in the household finds beeping noises

distressing and starts to bark.

more noise in the kitchen.

the scale beeps when turned on and when

functions and units are changed.
